The SMILE SWT#23 and Consortium #17 meeting Held

On 20-24 May 2022, the SMILE (Solar Wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer) Mission 23rd Scientific Working Team (SWT) and 17th Joint Meeting was successfully held in Shenzhen.

The meeting was co-chaired by Wang Chi, chief scientist of China, Colin Forsyth from MSSL (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), chief scientist of the European and Philippe Escoubet from ESA (European Space Agency), project scientist. More than one hundred people attended the meeting.Participants include scientists from China, United Kingdom, United States and so on, engineers and managers from ESA, European Space Technology Centre, European Space Astronomy Center, European Space Control Center and Chinese participation units.

During the five days meeting, the engineering status, existing problems and next plan were reported. At the same time, to solve the existing problems, two parallel sessions were held, which were the DFWG (Data Format and calibration Working Group) session and SOWG (Science Operations Working Group) session. In addition, the MWG (Modelling Working Group) meeting was held which brought scientists from different countries together for providing modeling supports of the SMILE mission.

The meeting effectively promoted the progress of the SMILE project. It also determined that the next SWT and Consortium meeting will be held in October, 2024, in Iceland.
