Space Environment Prediction
Like terrestrial weather, space environment can also be predicted. Researchers from NSSC Space Environment Prediction Center (SEPC) have been working to master the techniques required for space environment prediction.
Solar activities, such as solar flares, solar wind and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), can spew vast quantities of radiation and charged particles into space, potentially causing geomagnetic storms, impacting life and technology on Earth.
Focusing their researches on space environment, SEPC provides customers with space environment prediction services. By providing these information, researchers from SEPC ensure the security of space environment for space missions and makes corresponding measures and cautions if needs arise.
Now the research and service of SEPC has developed into a relatively independent and integrated system in areas such as space environment prediction and monitoring, space environment effects on the spacecraft and corresponding countermeasures as well as space environment application.
In October, 2003, Space Environment Prediction Center, under Chinese Academy of Sciences was officially established, indicating that China has made a great progress in the field of space environment prediction.NSSC becomes one of the leading organizations in the field of space environment prediction, dedicated to the space environment science research and service.
