NSFC’s Program to Study the Energy Transportation Process in Space Weather Concluded

Sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the program led by the State Key Laboratory of Space Weather, National Space Science Center, to study the multi-level energy transportation process in space weather was officially ended on Apr. 9th, 2013.

Focused on the main topic of energy transportation process in space weather, the program made progresses in aspects of new phenomenon discovery and analysis, basic physics process understanding and forms a flow diagram showing how the energy transport during the whole space.

During the meeting held by NSFC for checking and accepting fruits of the project, the expert panel reached a consensus that the program be rated as “superb”, the highest honor for both the research group and its members.

The program has all together published 243 Science Citation Index (SCI) papers since its approval in 2009, among them one was published on Science, 64 on Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR), 39 on Astrophysical Journal (APJ) and 22 on Solar Physics. Other academic publications include but not limited to Physical Review Letters (PRL), Physical Review X (PRX) and Nature Physics.

Focused on the training of young scientists and researchers, 14 young scholars have completed their post-doctorial research, 56 have gained their PHD degree and 3 are awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Established by NSFC, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars pay special attention to the researchers' existing achievements and creative capability. Applicants must be under the age of 45.
