Editor: " | May 05 , 2009

CSSAR--New breakthrough in the filed of triggering of magnetic reconnection was made by Cao Jinbin and his fellow researchers of CSSAR recently. The achievement was published on the Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR) and appeared on the website of the European Space Agency (ESA). It was listed as the top story of the Cluster Mission and gained high appraise internationally. The ESA website reported the achievement with the title “Reconnection - Triggered by Whistlers”. The article pointed out that “some of the most explosive phenomena in the Universe are due to a physical process known as magnetic reconnection. Fundamental aspects of this process are still not fully understood but new advances, using Cluster data, have recently been reported by a team led by scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences”.
