At 9 pm, May 13, 2013, the second space science active experiment was successfully conducted by Chinese space science scientists.

Launched at Xichang Satellite Launch Center, the sounding rocket carries science payloads such as a Langmuir probe, a high-energy particle detector, a magnetometer and a barium-metal-powder releaser. It will provide in-situ measurements for studying the high-energy particles in near-earth space as well as in the ionosphere and enables further investigation on the intensity and structure of the plasma and the magnetic field.

Preliminary data analysis conducted by the National Space Science Center (NSSC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, shows that the experiment had gained first-hand scientific data on the vertical distribution of the space environment at different altitudes.

Designed to take measurements and perform scientific experiments during its flight, the sounding rocket will investigate the key parameters of the atmosphere, further contributing to the overall study of the ionosphere, the geomagnetism, cosmic-ray, ultraviolet ray, X-ray and the micrometeorite.
