On 23 December, 2011, the kick off meeting of Quantum Science Satellite and Dark Matter Satellite was held in National Space Science Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The two satellites belong to CAS Strategic Priority Research Program in Space Science. The leader of CAS Strategic Priority Research Program in Space Science Yin Hejun, also the Vice President of CAS, attended the meeting and delivered important statement.

　　Pan Jianwei, physicist and Academician from University of Science and Technology of China, and Chang Jin, a researcher from Purple Mountain Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences, were appointed as Chief Scientists for the Quantum Science Satellite and Dark Matter Satellite respectively.

　　Strategic Priority Research Program: Space Science was approved after intense feasibility research in 2011 by Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are five satellites involved in the program, namely Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT), Shijian-10, KuaFu Project, Dark Matter Satellite and Quantum Science Satellite.
