On August 21, a three-person delegation from the South Africa National Space Agency (SANSA) headed by Dr. Lee-Anne McKinnell, the Managing Director of the Space Science Directorate, visited the National Space Science Center (NSSC), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

By delivering an insightful lecture entitled Space Weather in South Africa, Dr. Lee-Anne McKinnell introduced the foundation and development of the Regional Warning Center–South Africa, presented the undergoing research projects, and emphasized the importance of transforming space weather products to meet the requirements of users.

The recent research development of the Space Environment Prediction Center (SEPC), NSSC, and the space weather service provided by SEPC were introduced in the latter part of the meeting. And future cooperation between SANSA and SEPC in the field of space weather forecast were touched upon.

Dr. McKinnell is currently a Visiting Research Professor at Rhodes University, and a Professor at the North West University (NWU). Both universities located in South Africa. Her research focuses on ionospheric physics and space weather research.

The other two SANSA delegation members are Dr. Zama Thobeka Katamzi and Dr. John Bosco Habarulema, who are the researchers at SANSA.
