PIFI Day Fosters Global Collaboration in Space Weather Research at Haikou School

The PIFI Day with the theme on space weather was held November 10-16, 2025 in Haikou, China, which was jointly organized with International Meridian Circle Program (IMCP) Space Weather School. The event is funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), and attracted a vibrant group of international young scientists for an intensive week of learning and collaboration.

The Scientific Organizing Committee for the school was chaired by Prof. Wang Chi, Member of CAS and Director General of the National Space Science Center (NSSC) of CAS, and Prof. Lei Jiuhou from the University of Science and Technology of China. The faculty featured renowned international experts headed by Professor Jayachandran P. Thayyil from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, a key foreign leader of PIFI Group hosted by NSSC, CAS.

24 early-career international scholars, including master students, PhD students and Post-docs were selected as PIFI Young Leaders who are primarily from 15 countries including Peru, Brazil, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, and Mexico etc. All selected PIFI young leaders were awarded the PIFI certificates after a week’s intensive learning and academic exchange.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President's International Fellowship Initiative, PIFI, is a funding program designed to establish scientific cooperation and promote research communication around the globe.
