SMILE Satellite Successfully Completes MAG Boom Deployment Test
The Magnetometer (MAG) boom deployment test for the SMILE satellite was conducted on 21 and 22 November 2024, following the thermal vacuum test of the Payload Module (PLM). This test signifies the successful completion of the space environment testing for the payload. The same test was carried out in Shanghai during the acceptance testing before the payload was transported to ESTEC, and will repeat with the integrated satellite to ensure thorough testing. The collaborative effort involved the MAG team from NSSC, the PLM team from Airbus, and SMILE team from both European Space Agency and NSSC, showcasing one of the first joint tests for the SMILE satellite flight model.
The MAG developed by NSSC serves as a crucial payload on the SMILE satellite. The flight model was delivered from China to Europe on March 14th, then was integrated with PLM and underwent space environment testing at ESTEC.
