Prof. WU Ji Elected as foreign member of RAS

Prof. WU Ji is elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in 2022. The news is released at the General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) held on 2 June 2022.

Professor Alexander Sergeev, President of RAS, extended his warm congratulations to Prof. WU Ji in his email and stated that the joint efforts will promote the fruitful cooperation between Russia and China. 

Professor Wu Ji is the president of the Chinese Society of Space Research (CSSR) and former Director General of the National Space Science Center (NSSC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is full member of IAA (International Astronautics Academy), fellow of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, member of Advisory Board of Luxembourg Government for Space Resources, and member of the Advisory Committee of UAE Space Agency. He once served as the vice president of Committee for space research (COSPAR) (2010-2018), the head of the Strategic Priority Program on Space Science of CAS, the chief designer of the application system of Double Star Program, principle investigator of Yinghuo-1, and the project manager of scientific payload system of Chinese lunar exploration program Chang’e-1 and Chang’e-3.

Professor WU Ji is an active practitioner for international cooperation in space research.  As an ardent advocator for international cooperation, he has been playing an active and pioneering role in promoting international cooperation in space science at all levels. He has played a key role in the Double Star Program (DSP), a China-ESA joint mission, Yinghuo-1 a cooperation mission onboard Phobos-Grunt, as well as providing flight opportunities on new series of Chinese science satellites, such as Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), Shjian-10, Einstein Probe, etc. He is one of the initiators of the CAS-NAS Forum for New Leaders in Space Science, the CAS-ESA bilateral meeting and joint mission mechanism, and the International Space Science Institute in Beijing.
