The SMILE SWT#15 and Consortium #9 Video meeting Held

17-20 March 2020, the SMILE (Solar Wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer) Mission 15th Scientific Working Team and Joint Meeting was held successfully. In order to deal with the impact of the COVID-19, the conference adopted the participants in each country and region in accordance with the specific situation by video participation.

The meeting was co-chaired by Wang Chi, chief scientist of China, Professor Graziella Branduardi-Raymont, chief scientist of the European Party and Philippe Escoubet, project scientist at the European Space Agency. Scientists from the United Kingdom, Canada, Austria, Belgium, the United States of America, Brazil, Czech Republic, Japan, ESA and China, as well as engineering team, satellite system, payload system, ground support system and scientific application system, the ESTEC team and other relevant personnel more than 100 people attended the meeting.

According to the agenda, the 17th was the Modeling Working Group (MWG) web-meeting. The 18-19th was the SWT #15 and consortium #9 web-meeting. The 20th was the Data format and calibration working group web-meeting. The scientists reported the scientific issues. The engineers reported the progress of their respective developments.

This video conference has achieved the purpose of communication progress. The COVID-19 pandemic has a certain impact on the development of the project, but through the efforts of both sides, The SMILE mission-level Critical Design Review (CDR) time remains unchanged, that is to be completed in August 2021. The schedule of the payloads and the Spacecraft development has been slightly adjusted. The satellite platform CDR will be in June 2021. Finally it was tentatively determined that the next meeting would be held in Ottawa, Canada, in mid-October 2020.
