The Second Sino-Swiss Space Science Workshop Held in NSSC

On 13-14 Sept. 2018, the second Sino-Swiss Space Science Workshop was held at National Space Science Center (NSSC). Prof. Dong Xiaolong, the Deputy Director General of NSSC and Prof. Krpoun Renato, the head of Swiss Space Office attended the workshop and delivered opening addresses. Both sides reviewed the space science cooperation history respectively and introduced ongoing projects as well as the follow-up plans.

The Workshop attracted from 38 representatives from the Swiss and Chinese Space Science Community. CAS representatives come from National Space Science Center, National Astronomical Observatories, Institute of High Energy Physics, Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Aerospace Information Research Institute, Purple Mountain Observatory and Yunnan Astronomical Observatory, while Swiss representatives come from Swiss Space Office, Swiss Space Center, University of Geneva, University of Berne, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos/World Radiation Center, Paul Scherrer Institute and International Space Science Institute.

The major topic of the workshop revolved the field of Space Science including Solar Physics, Geoscience, High Energy Space Astronomy, and Space Weather etc. Both sides reported their achievements and research progress during the workshop. After the workshop, the Swiss delegation was invited to take a technical visit to NSSC facilities, including Concurrent Design facility, Space Science Mission Hall, Electron Accelerators& Low Energy Ion and Electron Calibration System.

A reception was held at the Embassy of Switzerland in China, where Jean-Jacques de Dardel, the Ambassador delivered remarks to participants and commented that the Sino-Swiss space science exchange mechanism promotes mutual understanding of Space Science, enhances the communication and paves the way for future cooperation.

The bilateral workshop is the most important exchange mechanism between Switzerland and China. The first workshop was held in 2014 in Lenk, Switzerland.
