Editor: | Oct 14 , 2014

At the invitation of Prof. WU Ji, Director General of NSSC, Prof. Wolfgang-Martin Boerner, IEEE Fellow and Emeritus Professor and Director of the Communications, Sensing and Navigation Laboratory of University of Illinois at Chicago, visited the National Space Science Center (NSSC) on Oct. 13, 2014.

Prof. Boerner first visited the CAS Key Lab of Microwave and Remote Sensing Technology in NSSC. As an internationally acknowledged expert in the research field of radar polarimetry, he then presented an academic talk entitled "The challenge for still unresolved development of Multi-band Equatorially Orbiting POLSAR satellite sensors---an integral task for the major space-SAR technology centers".

After the talk, Prof. Boerner attended an in-depth discussion on how to promote the activities of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS) in China. During the discussion, Professor WU Ji, who currently serves as the Chair of IEEE GRSS Beijing Chapter, introduced the progresses and challenges of Beijing Chapter. Dr. ZHANG Lefei introduced the status of the recently established Wuhan Chapter. Prof. Boerner introduced the progresses of IEEE GRSS in Southeastern Asia and provided valuable suggestions on how to push forward the development of IEEE GRSS Beijing Chapter and IEEE GRSS across the nation. Both sides agreed to extend the IEEE membership by taking advantages of the upcoming IGARSS 2016 to be held in Beijing.

The management team of IEEE GRSS Beijing Chapter and more than 20 graduate students from NSSC and Institute of Remote Sensing of Digital Earth of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Wuhan University, etc, accompanied the visit.
