Construction Work for China-Brazil Joint Laboratory for Space Weather Officially Embarked

The Second Meeting of the Working Group on the Brazil-China Ten-Year Space Cooperation Plan was held at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), Brazil, on June 9-10, 2014.

The meeting was held to make sure that the plans and recommendations made on the First Meeting of the Working Group are properly implemented according to agreed schedule, and to encourage further in-depth bilateral cooperation between China and Brazil in fields such as aerospace, components, space science and personnel training.

The visiting delegation includes scientists and officials from the China National Space Administration, the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), and the National Space Science Center (NSSC).

Chi Wang, Deputy Director of NSSC, attended the meeting and discussed with INPE about the bilateral cooperation in the field of space science. The two sides discussed in detail the development plan for the China-Brazil Joint Laboratory for Space Weather, also known as the South America Space Weather Laboratory of CAS. Consensus was made in aspects such as the official name of the upcoming lab, the import and export of the research equipment, visiting scholar Program as well as the Post Doctorial program at NSSC and INPE.

In addition, both sides called for the immediate and official start of the construction work of the China-Brazil Joint Laboratory for Space Weather, which according to schedule will become fully operational in 2016.
