On July 1, a delegation led by Thomas Reiter, Director of European Space Agency (ESA)’s Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations, visited National Space Science Center (NSSC), Chinese Academy of Sciences. On behalf of NSSC, Director General Prof. WU Ji, extended his warm welcome.

LIU Weining, Principle Investigator of Kuafu Project, introduced the updated scientific objectives, payloads and mission design of Kuafu L5, which solicited intense interest from ESA counterparts.

ZANG Zhenqun, Division Director of ShiJian-10 (SJ-10) Project Office, delivered a report on the collaboration on the ESA-developed Soret Coefficient in Crude Oil (SCCO) experiment on board Chinese recoverable satellite SJ-10.

Thomas Reiter commented that Kuafu L5 mission “opens new possibilities” and both parties exchanged opinions on issues such as data products, ground support, payload cooperation, and general timetable et al. Both sides reached consensus that the cooperation on SCCO experiments on SJ-10 should be actively promoted to meet the requirements of satellite environment.

After the meeting, the ESA delegation visited the Concurrent Design Center of NSSC.
