Bai Chunli, President of CAS, Extended Congratulation to NSSC Researchers on the Successful Launch of Shenzhou-10
On June 11, 2013, with Shenzhou-10 spacecraft blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, China has successfully launched its fifth manned spacecraft and sent three astronauts safely into space.
On behalf of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Bai Chunli, President of CAS, extended his congratulation and regard to NSSC engineers and researchers who took an active and indispensible role in the Shenzhou-10 manned space mission. The congratulation letter was sent on June 13, 2013, after Shenzhou-10 spacecraft successfully docked with Tiangong-1, China’s first orbiting space lab.
National Space Science Center (NSSC) under CAS was in charge of the space environment forecasting both before and during the mission to secure the successful launch and operation of Shenzhou-10 as well as its automatic space rendezvous and docking with Tiangong-1.
Tiangong-1 has been carrying a space environment exploration subsystem since its unmanned launching on Sept. 29, 2011. The subsystem developed by Lab of Space Environment Exploration affiliated to NSSC, will provide Shenzhou-10, Tiangong-1 as well as three astronauts with real-time data on the space environment during the 15-day space journey, China’s longest-duration residence in space. Its first-hand data will also contribute to the future research of space environment forecasting, space weather and its special effects and space physics as well.
