China Will be the Host of the 2016 IGARSS Symposium
On July 21, IEEE GRSS (Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society) Symposium was held in Munich, Germany and on the meeting China’s campaign to host the IGARSS 2016 (International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2016) was approved.
The IGARSS Symposium is held annually and the first Symposium was held in 1981. It is the most influential conference in the field of geoscience and remote sensing. The meeting place alternates among North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific area, which is determined through competition. The bid team is led by National Space Science Center and Fudan University, composed of Institute of Remote Sensing Application, Center of Earth Observation and Digital Earth. Chinese scientists have strived to host the IGRSS meeting since 1997 but did not win the bid until 2012.
WU Ji, Director General of NSSC, on behalf of the bidding team delivered the report to the decision making IGRSS members introducing the development in geosciences and remote sensing in China and elaborating the favorable conditions in Beijing.
