2008 Asia and Pacific IHY School Started

CSSAR--The 2008 Asia and Pacific International Heliophysical Year (IHY) School Summer Campus, sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Space Weather of CSSAR of CAS, successfully started in Beijing on October 20th. The school was another important activity of IHY for China as the general coordination country of Asia and Pacific IHY following the Key Science and Technology Cooperation Workshop of IHY in October, 2006.

More than 30 young technicians and doctor candidates of space science from domestic colleges and institutes such as CAS and Shandong University and international ones in Korea, Vietnam and India enrolled. The teachers of the school consisted of nearly 20 world famous space scientists from the Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA, the Space Environment Center of NOAA, MIT, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, the Korea Astronomy and Space Institute(KASI), the Austrian Academy of Sciences, CSSAR, the National Astronomical Observatories, the Peking University and the Shandong University. The lessons covered all the respects of corona physics, interplanetary physics, magnetosphere physics, ionosphere physics, middle and upper atmosphere physics and space weather. The teaching methods included lessons, laboratory operations and field visits to observatories.
