Prof. Stuart Bale, director of SSL, UC Berkeley visits CSSAR
Prof. Stuart Bale, director of the Space Sciences Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley(SSL, UC Berkeley) and Prof. Forrest Mozer, Assistant director, visited Center for Space Science and Applied Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CSSAR) from 7 May to 14 May, 2010.
On the first day of their visit, Prof. WU Ji, director of CSSAR met them in VIP room. After that, Prof. WANG Chi, vice director of CSSAR introduced the development of CSSAR, its research divisions, main scientific fruits and international cooperation. Prof. Stuart Bale, director of SSL, UC Berkeley also gave a brief introduction to the development of SSL and its main research area.
During the following days, Prof. Stuart Bale and Prof. Forrest Mozer visited State Key Laboratory of Space Weather, Laboratory of Rocket and Balloon Sounding Technology and Laboratory for Space Environment Exploration. They separately delivered a report titled Electric and magnetic field measurements in the solar wind and Magnetic field reconnection, particle acceleration and electric fields on May 13th, 2010. Researchers from both sides had a hot discussion and several cooperative agreements were achieved. Finally, a letter of intent was signed which will establish a long term collaboration in space science with a goal of participating together in future space missions including data sharing, instrument design and calibration.
